For me the first draft is always the hardest part. I was about two weeks behind but what can you do? I enjoyed writing it. I’ve grown attached to the new characters in this story. I know what you’re thinking, I’m attached to all of my characters and you’re right, I am. Except the bad guys. Eww. I try not to give them too much space in my head, although for some reason I do enjoy making them evil. What does that say about me?
So this book is the next book in the Breathe Universe, as I talked about in my last post here. Jasmine’s younger twin siblings have grown up a bit. They are still dealing with their past, trying to move forward in their new town. While Lily has adapted to her new life pretty well, Caedan is not the fan of change that she is. When a new girl comes to town he’s isn’t as welcoming as everyone else. Who is she? He has a feeling all is not quite right with her and he’s determined to figure it out.
Next week I’m going to post a conversation I had with Caedan right when I started writing this book. He wasn't really cooperating so we needed to have a one on one. Those of you who’ve read Breathe will see just how much more difficult he is as a teenager than he was at twelve. This girl is going to give him a run for his money though. I couldn’t make it too easy for him. What fun would that be?
Now I'm off finish the rewrites! A lot of work to be done before the first draft becomes reader ready!
If you haven’t read Breathe I’m going to be offering an excerpt for those who sign up for my newsletter. You will receive an excerpt of my newest book “Crushing” as well. Just enter your email address in the box on the right and it will come straight to your email inbox!

Rewrites. Me no likey. You asked me what I was up to on your last post, and well, after over a year of trying to get a publisher, I looked back at my finished novel, and didn’t like big parts of it. Frankly, I’m a better writer than when I started it. So I need to go back and redo big parts of it, and that takes a lot of energy/time that I don’t have right now.
Hopefully I can get it done, as you and many others have knocked out multiple books in that time. Good job.

Well don’t be too hard on yourself. I waited until my first child went off to college to get serious about my writing and even then it took my 2 1/2 years to finish. You also do an amazing job teaching the youth of our country. It takes a lot of time and energy along with being a husband and father. I’m impressed that you’ve finished a draft! You’ll get to it. I look forward to reading it when you’re done! ~Elena
