I don’t know if I’ve ever written about this here but I’m an insomniac. There are a couple of different kinds of insomnia. I have the type of insomnia where I can’t stay asleep. I have no problem falling asleep. I’m not a night person. My brain stops being able to process anything complex around 8pm (If it ever could, that is still up for debate). I’m usually in bed reading or watching Netflix by 9 or 9:30 and asleep an hour or so later.
When I wake up in the middle of the night, I’m wide awake and it takes me forever to go back to sleep. Every night I wake up somewhere between 12:30 – 4:30. I’m awake anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours.
What do I do with this time? My iPad is a wonderous thing in the middle of the night. I read. I don’t go on Facebook. It’s really boring when everyone else is sleeping but Pinterest? I can pin nerd girl pins to my heart’s content. I pin funny pug and bulldog pictures to my daughter’s board. I pin southern cooking pins and meaningful life statements. I have to be careful to stay out of the humor category. Waking up my husband while laughing at something on Pinterest, at three in the morning, only solidifies his belief that I’m crazy.
The other thing I do is pray. I figure the Lord must have me up at such an hour for some reason. Maybe someone needs prayer at that moment. Maybe He just wants to catch me when the house is quiet. I’m not sure. Insomnia’s not so bad. I get a lot accomplished.
I do often feel the call for a nap in the afternoon. Right about now that sounds pretty good.

Occasionally, insomnia hits me pretty hard. I realized that it’s actually a health issue. For instance, when I have not been eating well or when I’m under a bit of stress I don’t sleep well. I do find solace in some art therapy here and there, though, and I think Pinterest can offer us that.

I agree. I just try to stop my mind from doing the round and round thing. Pinterest gets me distracted enough to get sleepy again. Sometimes it taks awhile though. =)
