How do you all feel about love triangles? My new book Crushing has a love triangle but when I sat down to write the story I didn't intend for it to be that way. The problem came in when one of the characters I intended to be kind of a jerk, had other plans. It turns out he’s had a crush on my main character for a long time. He’s a nice guy. Be a jerk? I don't think so. He was her friend and by the way, he had no intention of stepping back and letting this new/old crush step in and take his girl. Seriously? What just happened?
My main character and the other love interest each have a different view point about this situation which added to the story's complexity. Now I know it was a good thing but at the time I wasn't so sure.
Usually, when I start talking like this, people start looking at me like there is something seriously wrong in my head, but the truth is my characters are pretty real to me. They have personalities and opinions and they are pretty vocal about it.
All that being said Crushing is all about love, friendship and choices. I had no idea writing a love triangle could be so complicated. It was a really fun book to write but I’m not sure who was driving me or them.
Just something else I can say I've learned on the journey.

Hi Elena–Susanne Lakin mentioned you today. (She’s been editing my suspense novel and recommended that I talk to you.) I sent you a FB message. Let’s “chat” soon, okay?
When is a good time for you to talk writing with me?
CRUSHING sounds awesome. I need to buy BREATHE and read it. Susanne says we write similarly. Hmm. That’s interesting to hear that from an editor.
